Regimen Guide

Hi there! Below are the instructions for our basic 4 step Malezia regimen. This is good for treating acne and / or “fungal acne” as it’s known colloquially on the internet.

As a reminder, none of our products contain known nutrient sources for malassezia and other microorganisms like cutibacterium and staphylococcus — all of which may play a role in the formation and exacerbation of acne.

For best results, please follow the instructions below as precisely as possible! Great care and attention to detail went into this guide, so make sure to read everything.

Any deviation from the steps below can negatively impact the final outcome of results including the use of makeup or other skincare products.

Lastly, we strongly recommend doing a patch test first! Although we've poured our hearts into these products and formulated them to be good for all skin types, everyone's skin is unique and can respond in unexpected ways.

Step #1: Oil Cleanse

On alternating nights, apply either our Purified MCT Oil or Cleansing Balm to your skin and massage for 1-5 minutes. Follow this pattern:

  • Monday: MCT Oil
  • Tuesday: Cleansing Balm
  • Wednesday: MCT Oil
  • Thursday: Cleansing Balm

So on and so forth....

If using the Cleansing Balm, which contains salicylic acid, you can leave it on the skin for up to 5 minutes as an exfoliating treatment.

If your skin is ultra-sensitive, use only the MCT Oil and avoid the Cleansing Balm.

Step #2: Cleanse

After massaging your face with Oil or Cleansing Balm, splash your face with water and follow up with the Hyaluronic Acid Cleanser for a maximum of 15 seconds.

Rinse off thoroughly.

Step #3: Moisturize

To damp skin, apply anywhere from a pea-sized amount to half a finger’s worth of Malezia's 5% Urea Moisturizer. This will depend on personal preference — f.c. is a moisturizing fiend and likes to apply a generous amount :p

Allow the moisturizer to completely dry before moving on to the next step.

Step #4: Treat

Apply a fingertip’s worth of Malezia's Acne Treatment Gel (2.5% micronized benzoyl peroxide) all over affected areas of the face.

If you are not applying it to your entire face you may use less. For example, a pea-sized amount for only the chin area would do.

How often should I do this?

The 4 steps above should be done once per day. Preferably at night.

During the day simply rinse thoroughly with water or cleanse for up to 15 seconds maximum, then follow up with the Malezia's 5% Urea Moisturizer.

What can I do if Benzoyl Peroxide irritates my skin?

If you experience irritation from BP either use less of it, use it every other day, or use it as a contact therapy to build up tolerance — in other words, apply to skin for up to 15 minutes before rinsing it off thoroughly and following up with moisturizer.

NOTE: 15 minutes is the minimum contact time required to kill all acne-causing microorganisms. (1

Additionally, make sure you’re using enough moisturizer! This is your barrier recovering friend. At minimum, you should be doing 1.5 times the amount of moisturizer relative to BP.

Most importantly: listen to your skin.

Is it feeling a little dry today? Do contact therapy or decrease the BP. Noticing increased congestion and your skin isn’t dry? Increase the BP.

Pay attention, and adjust accordingly. The regimen guide is flexible, and you are your own best advocate!

Troubleshooting the regimen.

Most people will completely clear their skin using our acne treatment gel over moisturizer once a day. This is how f.c. has used it for over a year! However, if your skin needs additional help here's what to do next:

  • After 6 weeks, start doing contact therapy with BP for 15 minutes in the AM. This should be done before rinsing with water and following up with moisturizer. In the evening, do the regimen as usual making sure to apply BP over moisturizer and leaving it on overnight.
  • After 10 weeks, start leaving on the benzoyl peroxide twice a day. Make sure to only use a fingertip amount OVER moisturizer each time.
  • After 14 weeks, start using benzoyl peroxide under moisturizer at night, and over moisturizer in the day.
  • After 20 weeks, start using benzoyl peroxide under moisturizer twice a day (AM and PM).

When will I see results?

Give this regimen at least 8 weeks before calling it quits. It is very important to stay consistent and give it time! Benzoyl peroxide is an active ingredient that may have a “purging period” where the frequency of breakouts increase. This is due to the expression of lodged material deep within the pilosebaceous unit.

NOTE: purging does not always occur and depends on the severity of acne. If you experience it however, please know it will eventually pass after a couple of weeks so hang in there! You got this :)

And that’s it! We wish you nothing but the best on your journey to clear skin. Feel free to share your before and afters using #maleziaskin on instagram! :)

Warmly,

The Malezia Team
